Don’t Let Your Skin Wither Like The Leaves This Fall . . .
As the season changes and we bid farewell to short sun dresses, it is time to turn our attention toward embracing the beautiful shades of fall. As trees start shedding leaves, our skin also begins to transform, shedding dehydrated flakes and leaving our bodies dry, scaly and rough. These happenings tell us that it’s time to switch our current skin care routine into one that is more weather-appropriate for the upcoming season.
Even though it’s the fall season and time to start covering up, this does not mean that your skin can be left unattended. Wearing jeans, sweaters and boots can cause skin to become dehydrated, dry and patchy which, if left insufficiently moisturized, creates unsightly white patches. There is naturally a tendency to take hot showers in cold weather; this also makes skin dry as dead skin cells are removed from the surface. Hot water also removes too much oil from the skin and can cause skin damage unless moisturized correctly.
All this can be avoided by following a really simple yet thorough skin care regimen, either at home or at the spa. Our spa offers a variety of full body deep exfoliation, which some times may be necessary to give your skin a head start if you are not regularly exfoliating at home or just come home from a warm vacation spot. A new season inspires a change in lifestyle, e.g., new clothes, new shoes, maybe a new hairstyle – so why should your skin-care regime be any different? The following are a few tips that will help make the transition easier:-
Switch your fun, bubbly shower gel for something more luxurious! Fruity shower gels are great for summer months as they are refreshing and smell divine. However, as the weather gets colder, you may want to switch to a soap-free, hydrating shower gel, eliminating dryness caused by soap.
At Forget Me Not Day Spa we carry NBW body wash, a product extracted from a plant – based source containing biodegradable ingredients, 100% petroleum, paraben and artificial fragrance free. We carry four tempting scents, lavender, marigold magic (calendula infused soya oil & sweet Orange essential oil), beach with lime (essential oil of lime with fine white beach sand) and desire (a blend of essential oils such as jasmine, sandalwood, patchouli and sweet orange).
Cleansing with our “Renaissance” exfoliating glove is the exfoliation method “par excellence” for the face and body. It is also a massage glove that activates and improves blood circulation and contributes to the body’s health while stimulating a feeling of well being and relaxation.
The “Renaissance” glove is unique because it:
* removes all dead skin cells and toxins that suffocate the skin
* does not dry or irritate the skin
* leaves the skin soft and silky
* increases the efficiency of body care such as moisturizing, slimming & self- tanning creams.* loosens ingrown hair
* is quick drying and easy to take care of.
* is suitable for all skin types and can be used by men & women of all ages and by children eight years and older.
Effective facial cleansers for the fall months are mostly those that are cream-based and are locked in their own moisture, thus preventing skin from becoming dehydrated. If used along with a complementing hydrating face cream, will also help form a protective barrier against extreme drop in temperature.
There are many great products that can help your skin retain its moisture and smoothness during fall. Lotions and body-creams created for this specific purpose are in abundance. The best times to use these are directly after drying off after a bath or shower as it helps preserve the moisture that has already been absorbed by your skin. Our body butters are also great for this purpose, they are both fun and luxuriant and they, too, are 100% petroleum, paraben and artificial fragrance free and come in the same four tempting scents. Ingredients to look for in body butters are shea-butter, cocoa butter, and most nut butters (macadamia, brazil and almond).
It is always best to use oil-based scrubs in cold weather. Oil-based scrubs help exfoliate without peeling off healthy skin and help hydrate skin at the same time. There are various oil-based scrubs available with varying consistencies. Some have more oil settled at the top while more preferable ones have balanced consistency between the oil and the exfoliation beads.
Just because you’re wearing clothes that cover most of the body does not mean you can forgo using a sunscreen. There are plenty of sun screens which are specifically designed for cold weather. A simple moisturizing sunscreen with SPF 15 is sufficient. Try to find one which is mineral based, with a matte finish.
Lastly, do not forget your nails and feet! Dry cuticles are a tell-tale sign of insufficient skin care. This can be prevented by the simple expedient of applying a few drops of cuticle oil to nails on a daily basis. Feet are already strangled by heavy stockings, boots and enclosed shoes, so Invest in a good foot exfoliation and moisturizing product such as a pumice foot scrub.
