Spring Skin Renewal

From manicures to facials and body wraps, many treatments at our spa include exfoliation. Exfoliation is a process which helps shed layers of dead skin cells which have formed on the body due to the natural action of the skin. Sweat, air pollution, and oil skin secretions, and even some skin care products, can build up on the skin’s surface, causing a dull, lifeless appearance.

Regular exfoliation treatment removes old, dry skin cells, allowing new healthy cells to shine through. Exfoliating also stimulates blood circulation, which feeds new skin cells to help them divide and mature. This keeps the skin’s appearance youthful and diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

There are different ways to exfoliate, including the use of an abrasive scrubbing agent, a fruit enzyme to dissolve the dry cells, or microdermabrasion to abrade them. Special exfoliating mitts and dry brushes are used when necessary.

Lymphobiology facials and body massages
The predominant fluid in the body is lymphatic fluid. Nutrients from the food we eat, and oxygen from the air we breathe, are carried around the body by lymphatic fluid. It also carries toxic poisons, bacteria and viruses away from the cells.

The lymphatic system is also primarily responsible for carrying disease-fighting material to cells. When this system is blocked, the body can easily become defenceless against attacks by virus, fungi, and bacteria. Many of the body’s immune processes occur in the lymph nodes. If the pathways become congested, blocked, damaged or severed, fluids can build up in the connective tissue causing edema and swelling. This can than lead to abnormalities in cells and tissues. If there are any abnormalities in the tissues, it is the role of the lymphatic system to transport the damaged cells, plus inflammatory products and toxins, away from the area. The sooner this happens, the faster the recovery. This is where Lymphatic Drainage can make a difference. This gentle technique promotes and stimulates the lymphatic system to drain stagnant fluids, regenerate tissues, detoxify and filter out toxins and foreign substances.

Lymphatic Drainage treatment is recommended for both face and body in the following areas: Detoxification of the entire body

  • Relief of chronic pain
  • Minimizes lines and wrinkles
  • Restores hydration of the skin and stimulates the overall skin
  • Promotes the healing of fractures, torn ligaments, sprains, and pain relief.
  • Reduction in fluid retention and edemas (swelling) of various origins.
  • Helps with post-cancer treatments including Radiation therapy
  • Regeneration of tissue, including burns and wounds.
  • Enhances body contouring and reduces cellulite
  • Reduces swollen ankles and legs during pregnancy.
  • Aids in stress reduction by providing deep relaxation Aids in the reduction of insomnia

  • Builds and strengthens collagen fibres, increases tone and enhances facial contouring Rids the face or body of excess fluids and/or toxins
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a procedure whereby the top layer of skin gets “sandblasted” by aluminum oxide crystals, in order to remove facial dead skin. This allows newer, fresher skin to move to the top of the skin. It cannot remove deep scars, tattoos, birthmarks or wrinkles. However, there are several people who have successfully used microdermabrasion treatment for correction of acne scars, sun damage, uneven skin texture, skin discolouration and superficial lines. Regular microdermabrasion as an acne scar treatment has also proved successful in cleaning pores, thus helping prevent future outbreaks of acne.
For this procedure, a cleansing toner is applied to the skin to remove excessive oil. Sanitary aluminum oxide crystals are then applied to the face in order to remove dead skin and the other impurities. Based on the strength of the peel, the procedure could last from between twenty to thirty minutes. Next, a soothing toner is applied to the face, and finally, a re-hydrating cream and sun block are applied to the skin.
Titanium Dioxide
Summer is just around the corner, and UV rays will be penetrating your skin all day long. This is the time to protect your skin more then ever. Be sure to read all labels and ensure the correct ingredients are included in your choice of Sun Block or Sun Screen. Titanium dioxide is a mineral that is an excellent ultraviolet filter. It physically blocks UVA, UVB and UBC harmful rays emitted by the sun that can cause skin cancer. It is the only FDA approved physical block that is considered 100% safe, non-irritating, and non – allergic. In fact, it can be used (with caution) on babies and adults, unlike many other chemical sun screens.
Titanium dioxide may remind you of the white noses often seen on beach lifeguards. The products used to create these white noses usually contain large 200 nm particles of titanium dioxide, but now, titanium dioxide particles can be as small as 30 nm. and appear totally transparent once applied to the skin. Many over the counter products advertise SPF’s of 40 and higher, beware this only provide protection from UVA rays only. Protect your skin with Atzen Sun Block SPF 15 or 30 with Titanium dioxide, suitable for every skin type – in particular, those with very sensitive skin or with a history of skin cancer. It is even water proof.

Don’t wait for 20 years for those pesky age spots to appear, start protecting your own and your family’s skin today!
